At the Voting Place

Click here for information on where to vote.

Upon entering the voting place, proceed to the registration table and state your name and residence address to the election officials. In primary elections, you must also state the political party with which you affiliate; or, if you are unaffiliated, you must state the name of the authorizing political party in whose primary you wish to vote.

If you are properly registered, your name will be entered into the pollbook and you will be given an “authorization to vote” slip.

  • Step to the end of the line waiting for a voting machine. Give the authorization to vote slip to the precinct assistant, who will then take you to the next available voting machine.

  • Mark your ballot by pressing the box to the left of the political party, candidate’s name, or proposition for which you wish to vote.

  • In a primary election, you will be issued only the ballot of the political party with which you are registered; or, if you are not registered with a political party (unaffiliated), you will be issued only the ballot of the political party in whose primary you previously indicated you wished to vote.

  • In a general election:

    • You may vote for all candidates of one party (a straight ticket) by pressing the box to the left of the party for whose candidates you wish to vote.

    • You may vote a split ticket by pressing the box to the left of the party and then pressing in the box to the left of the name of the candidate(s) of a different party for whom you wish to vote.

    • You may also skip the party selection and press in the box to the left of the name for each candidate for whom you wish to vote.

    • In a multi-seat race, you may vote a split ticket only by pressing in the box opposite the name of each candidate for whom you wish to vote.

    • Remember that selecting a straight party ticket will not select any candidates in any non-partisan race; these must be individually selected by pressing in the box to the left of the name for the candidate(s) for whom you wish to vote.

  • If you change your mind or make a mistake:

    • For any vote-for-one race, you may press again in the box to the left of the candidate’s name to remove the vote or press in the box to the left of another candidate’s name to change the vote.

    • For any multi-seat race, you must remove the vote for one candidate (by pressing in the box to the left of the candidate's name for whom you do not wish to vote) before selecting the candidate for whom you do wish to vote (by pressing in the box to the left of the candidate's name).

  • Remember that you must view all pages of the ballot. You must also view all pages of the "View Your Vote" choices.

  • When you have finished making your selections, you must:

    • Press the Review button at the bottom of the last page of the ballot. You can then review all your choices and make changes if desired.

    • Then press the red VOTE button at the top of the terminal to record your votes.

    • Finally, you must confirm your vote by again pressing the red VOTE button at the top of the terminal.
